Bangla Road vs Walking Steet-a comparison

Went to Liverpool, city centre, last night ( Friday ) with two friends.
3 PINTS, came to total £6.80. In Patong that would get you 3 GLASSES !

What a rip off! Anyone know why it is so expensive?

...last time I sat there at the bar not knowing whether to look up to the glass ceiling or behind me to the bath tub eying those to lovely girls rambling around ...

...good my wife told me meanwhile to focus on some more important discussions, appearently about focus ....

Nice place to have a beer or two...but don't ask me what they did cost, I honestly have no clue ..

£6.80 is about 360 baht, Chang Draught at 40 baht per half is 9 glasses, how many did you get again? sorry I should not have compared to Lala, but there again you did!! and as said above how many dancing girls were there in the bar available to you?

Now how much was the kebab on the way home, fecking terrible here bought a half chicken at 45 baht, daylight, oops nightlight robbery!!!

Stop moaniong and comparing, every single thing is not cheaper here but a lot is and its way more fun!!

I'm in the lucky(?) position now of working weekdays in Pattaya (where I'm a software engineer) and spending every other weekend in Phuket (where I own a hotel).

Since my condo in Pattaya is only minutes from Walking Street, and since I'm down in Bangla Road on Saturday nights, I thought I'd do a quick comparison between the two nightlife areas.

First, if you think Bangla Road is dead, then Walking Street is six feet under and rotting.... I just got back from a 00.30 visit and it is very quiet, much more than Bangla and the Bangla sois.

Ladyboys, many of them, and ugly, all over Walking Street. In Bangla, I really don't see that many (relative to WS), but maybe this is because my eyesight is bad and I mistake them for women, at least in the first seforum.xxxes of horizontal exercise.

The WS bars seemed to employ more bouncers that in Bangla. Perhaps WS attracts a rough sort of crowd.

I was interested in seeing the foreign TPVs in WS. Hmm, lounging about and smoking on duty and then dropping your cig butt on the ground? No, not very impressive (Yes, I'm biased...)

I did chat to one of the Thai bar-staff about them and she said that none of the Thai staff liked the foreign volunteers.

I was going to take a photo of them but they really gave me dirty looks when I whipped it out (the camera).

Anyway, I'm back in Phuket this weekend, and Bangla is definitely my favorite over Walking Street Maybe see you in MTB.

Because landlords keep raising the rents, barowners have to make a living and people keep paying the prices. Considering the much lower levels of duty/tax in LOS, somebody is making a tidy profit.

Good post. I don't know why but i just feel happier when in patong. Than pattaya. From now on every single los trip will be patong /phuket region, Just feels more holiday like!

I hated Pattaya thought it was full of some very strange people but loved bangla road / Patong even though there are still some strange folk not as many but the night life and bars IMHO are much better

Of course, one of the major differences between the two is that in Pattaya, there are many more go go bars. In Patong, it's mostly a beer bar thing.

£2:20 ish a pint in a city centre place, now that has to be a weathershits. If I choose to drink nearly gone off beer next to smelly old hobo's and young twats in baseball caps, I would stay on my local park bench drinking cans out of the bargin bin at my local co-op. As at least I couldn't smell stale piss and be asked "what you looking at?" on the bench.

My god, the last time you would be able to get a decent pint around these parts for that price was about 6 or 7 years ago.

But your right, the price of a beer in los has gone up quite considerably over the last couple of years, for us Brits, mainly due to raise of the THB against the pound. Thats world economics for you. :rules:

Have yet to get a bottle, for 40 bht, down Bangla! Point taken re. dancing girls and food, but that was not my point. Don't we pay extra for lady drinks and bar fines. Beer is well overpriced, that said, I am back, in three weeks for more of the same, cheers

I prefer WS over Bangla as far as they go.....more lights, more gogo bars, better nightclubs, less touts....but I'm not that into either one that much anymore..I just don't get that little tingle I used to get walking down either one anymore

I thought WS was fairly dead early when I was there in March (maybe everybody was in the go go's) but then I had just come from what seemed like the in-your-face-madness of Fields Ave. Bangla however was same same.

Good point about the touts.

I do not like the little kids on WS throwing flowers and glow sticks in your face to buy, but I really don't like the touts on Bangla or those guys with the lizards trying to offer a photo.

Currently I prefer WS to Bangla, but maybe because I have been down WS much less than Bangla.

I like the girls in uniforms outside gogo's on WS advertising the club and the drink prices. : So far have not been hassled by any of them.
