Hello, I am new and have questions about something...

Hello,
I am a 38 yr old drug and alcohol counselor. I have had something strange happening and am looking for some guidance and explanation. Maybe you can help?

I am the manager and counselor of a Women's Drug and Alcohol Recovery Home and occassionally I will use sage to smudge with the women I work with. My intent is to clear energy while doing this. However, while I smudge the women I have always perceived areas of the body that "feel" different to me while I am smudging. I never gave this much thought and always minimized any possible importance until recently.

I was smudging many of the women, one at a time, and while doing so and going over their bodies I was having this experience that at certain areas it just feels different to me, maybe stuck or empty or something. I really cannot describe it. this time however, I remembered the areas and asked the ladies later if there was some significance. For instance, one woman, I perceived it when I got to the back of her head. (In my mind I actually saw her head as being an empty gaping hole in the back of her head--it wasn't gruesome it was just like an empty bowl or something) Another her knees.(this one, I didn't see any picture, just felt different from the rest of the smudging) And the pregnant women I felt it when I got to her abdomen (this one, I felt a shock of joy jolt through me, I became momentarily elated).

Later, when I asked the one about her head, she said that she had been assaulted and was at that time hit very hard on the back of her head about two years ago and received a concussion.

I asked the women about her knees and she said she had always had problems with her knees, even had surgery when she was young.

And of course the pregnant women, I just received this total joyous warmth and elation.

So, my question is...what the heck is going on? I am open to all explanations and I lead a spiritual life. I am just wondering what this perception is and if there is a holistic branch you might recommend to me to begin researching or learning about this.

thank you for any information or suggestions, I am quite ignorant albeit very open about holistic healing or energy work or any of this stuff and am wondering what this might be and if I might use it to help others in some way.

Hi scubaddiction,

To answer your questions: The energetic field around the body, is known as the aura. There are colors & layers to it, all of which can be affected by the mood & health of the individual, as well as their injuries, drug use and many other things. For anyone who has sustained a major trauma, such as the woman who was assulted, you could most definitely pick-up a hole or gap in the field around her head.

An injury, or other problems at the knee, (or a broken bone) may show up as feeling heavy & blocked, or as though there is simply no energy moving from there all the way down the leg. The feeling is similiar to the static one picks up when running a hand over a TV screen, when the field is whole, without breaks. But the holes or breaks will often have no energy at all, as though the energetic flow is simply switched off. It's like a hose that's been empitied out, after the water flow is shut off.

For anyone who has been using drugs or alcohol there will be a substantially different energy field, often with many holes or gaps in it. Additionally, there may be "attached" energies/enitities. (that is another matter, I won't get into here).

For people who've got the more simple variety, of an opening/gap type of thing going on, I will give a short explanation (if they are open to it) and work in the energy field to clear the affected region.

*** You should only attempt any of this with clear intent, grounding and shielding yourself, and do a session like this one, after you have permission from the individual. After all our massage clients all sign a consent form, and even patients at a doctors office have to give their permission as well.

Energetic healing work can be accomplished a number of ways, whether you are doing smudging with a feather/prayer fan or your hands. I will most often start above the affected area (using focused intent or prayer, depending on what you feel comfortable calling it) while moving the hands over the gap & down below the area I'm working on. Do this a few times, filling the opening with white light. ( Again using your intention) If there were actually an area requiring physical healing the colors of the light would often be different, however.

Once it feels to you as though the gap is filled up, shift from sending color to simply tuning in, to "see" (intuitively
speaking) how the area looks now. I close my eyes for this: picture the person in front of you and ask for a before picture first, so you get the sense of how it looked before the healing work, then ask for a second vision of how it looks now. If it "feels" like more is needed you can do it again, always visualizing the perfection you are seeking to attain.

There are a number of books out on both aura work, color therapy, and energetic healing, as well as shamanic work. Do a little research on Amazon or elsewhere and see what appeals to you, if you're open to it. Also, look up Alex Gray's books, and take a look at his artwork. http://www.alexgrey.com (And yes he's directly related to the man who wrote the famous Gray's Anatomy Book - not the TV series) It's a fascinating field of study, though you may find if you work with those who've been raised in very religious traditions, they may not be open to any of this.

Just a note to say thank you for your helpful replies.

I wouldn't feel comfortable in doing energy work with others until I had seen it done. I have a few people who are well versed in energy work and holistic healing and will be in touch with them to ask questions. I was also recommended to look into Carloyn Myss' work. Anyone familiar with her?

Carolyn Myss is a very prolific writer, and also has some of her material out on cassette & disc format as well. I'm not sure how much of it addresses the auric field, but you may want to look into The Hands of Light book by Barbara Brennen. As well as info on other spiritual energetic healing work in Native American Shamanistic traditions. Everything out there, has it's own slant on things & the actual healing process, but generally speaking as long as the intention is clear & not setup to impose your version of how it should be done, the outcome can be excellant.

I'm always careful to word any spoken or unspoken intent in a positive way, keeping in mind that whatever occurs be for the highest & best for the individual, & those around them. Equally important: is that they are ready for the release of whatever the issue maybe. Sometimes as you know folks are not quite ready to let go of the trauma, or pain, etc. When the blockages, or old trauma is cleared, keep in mind that nature abhors a vacuum, as they say. and the space that is cleared must always be refilled with positive healing energy, (white light) otherwise the area will most likely "fill itself in" again, as it was prior to having the work done to clear it.


There are classes on this work all over the USA, so if you're ever interested in seeking them out, research the internet and I'm sure you'll find something in a region near you, as well as people who are already trained in this work.

You may also want to consider that you've had this experience to open you up to a whole new avenue of your own, to explore a path in healing work, as you are obviously opening up to being energetically sensitive, also called being empathic.

I don't know the name for this; I was hoping someone would come along and provide the answer to direct you on a specific path.

It sounds to me that your are blessed with a gift of insight. Given you are a spiritual person, ask for guidance when you meditate or before you go to sleep, as to what is happening and what you are to do with the information you receive.

What I have learned in my journey is that I don't have to know the "whats" and "whys" as much as I just need to accept with faith that it's real and it works.

You might want to consider on doing "Emotional Regression Therapy" with this person. Apparently, there is a strong possibility that this person has been through some previous events which has affected this person for many different lives. And, getting hit on the back of the head with this kind of trauma, may indicate an event had indeed repeated itself over again. Therefore, showing you signs of blocked, or concaved energy. If you can look at the chakra's and see if any of the sub chakra's are spinning in a reverse fashion. There's a good chance that the energy is indeed blocked.
