Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.
At the start of 2025, one of my new year's resolutions was to prioritize my wellbeing by scheduling once-a-month massage appointments. We are nearly halfway through the year and I've only been able to squeeze in three sessions. So, no things are not going to plan. That's life, right?

But about two months ago, a recently-launched decompression and massage bed by Chirp landed on my front porch. I decided to give it a try, and reader, I haven't looked back since.
The Chirp Contour is equipped with decompression and heat therapy, designed to give professional-grade back and neck massages in the comfort of your own home. Think of it as one of those spa chairs you sit in while getting a pedicureโbut in the form of a flat car seat. Similarly, it features rollers that knead areas across the back, shoulders, and neck, along with a remote that allows you to adjust the size, pressure, and heat settings to your preference. You can even create a personalized profile so you don't have to constantly adjust the device every time you lay on it.
Conveniently, the Contour comes with three interchangeable heads for a more personalized massage experience. The soft rollers work gently to loosen tight, sore muscles along the spine; the contour rollers apply firm pressure along the spine with 4 contact points, relieving any discomfort; and finally, the deep tissue rollers have thumb-width wheels that mimic a deep tissue massage, while stretching muscles along the spine. They're all housed in a built-in storage compartment within the bed, which is super handy for space-saving reasons, and on top of that, you can switch each roller out anytime during your treatment.
For those just trying the decompression table for the first time, I recommend playing around with each roller to see which one feels the best. I found the contour and deep tissue rollers were too intense for me the first couple of uses. I prefer the soft rollers because it applies the perfect amount of pressure.
From there, you can customize your treatment or try one of the three pre-set programs on the remote, which I highly recommend as well. I love doing the Relax Mode before bed or when I am stressed out. The combination of heat, decompression, and kneading works like a charm at winding me down. The Recovery Mode also comes in handy after a workout or if I have been sitting at my desk too long. The third preset is called Warm Up, which is meant to be used in the morning to help start your day off on a relaxing note. To be honest, I haven't played around with that one as much because I am always in a rush in the morning, but the few times I have done it has felt great.
It's worth noting that the Contour is big. The dimensions are 23 x 43x 7 inches and it weighs approximately 22 pounds. That said, you can easily fit it under a bed, which is what I do. But if you don't have a lot space, or rather, don't want another thing laying around the house taking up space, this is something to consider.
What I will also say is that you have to take the decompression table for what it is. It's not a masseuse nor will it knead away your aches and pain as well as a licensed professional. I won't lie, laying on the floor does feel awkward, and quite frankly, there are times when the rollers don't feel as comfortable as you would like them to feel. It does take getting used to, but I'd say it takes a couple of tries before you figure out what feels good and what doesn't.
For me, I love the heat therapy for my back and neck massage. I like to position the neck rollers (those are not interchangeable) pushed right up against my shoulders to alleviate persisting aches caused by stress. I think it's also a great product to use in-between scheduled massages when you're in a pinch.
And the fact that it has all these capabilities at just $600? I'd say that's the best kind of gift for yourself or loved one. After all, Father's Day is coming upโฆ
