How to quit this hobby

Hello all, today is a different kind of post than my usual ones as I am seeking help. In regards to the title, I need support and advice on how to quit this hobby. It would not only help me but help others who would also like to.

If you care to read this part carry on. I began this hobby two years ago and it has been something that has started to take over my life in a way. I used to laugh at the idea of how can you be addicted to sex? What even is a sex addiction? It’s a natural instinct in our biology isn’t it? However realizing now and experiencing it on my own I realized it’s a real thing. When it’s all you think about at work, at school, when ur with ur partner, first thing when you wake up, before you go to bed then perhaps it’s an addiction. It’s something I want to stop doing however I just can’t. If anybody can give advice and methods on how to leave this hobby it would be greatly appreciated. I may relapse again however it is apart of the journey and it is part of the journey!

it is like smoking. take it step by step. say you hobby 5 times a week, instead of not hobbying at all. reduce the hobby little by little

I'd say it depends. For some people it has to be cold turkey. If you really think it's an actual addition then you probably need to treat it as such and figure out what works best for you. That might take a few iterations to get right.

IMO part of the allure of the hobby is the lack of responsibility. You get what you want, when you want it, with no strings attached. If you're not careful and do it too much, that can erode your character (just follow a number of the regulars here and you'll see what I mean).

Or maybe try something to offset what you're doing. Volunteer somewhere, get involved in a community organization. Use your commitments to those activities to set limits to your hobbying and stick to them.

Really appreciate this advice a lot I’m going to try my best. I have hobby’s however I’ll hone into them better and try to distract myself more as much as possible

You could try SMART Recovery. They have discussion groups for sex-related addictions and hold on-line meetings that you can join without showing yourself.

Go with the intention of seeing any girl this week. Before you go, make a list of things you could buy for yourself with that money. On that list, put some monthly bills could you pay with that money as well.
As you get closer to the destination look at that list and think to yourself, 45 mins of "pleasure" or whatever is on this list that is for me and I can use or keep.

This is awesome and amazing advice. I really appreciate the advice I’m getting and thought I would be getting a ton of trolls on here however you guys are genuinely helping me. It’s so very appreciated and it won’t only help me but help someone else who would like to quit this hobby as well.

This is good advice. It's a good way to add to replace this habit. Useful things can improve one's life and purchasing and using them and not allowing hoarding or accumulation is worthwhile means of changing this habit. At some point, however; things bring you back to the root problem (whatever that is - why did I begin in the first place?). Things take time to maintain and use, they're a good time killer.

Hobbying was to satisfy curiosity and obtain experience. Will mostly continue as long as I remain single. But this was an effect to solve a different 'cause'.

Guessing at some causes which bring one to this hobby might be:

-Rejection
-Loss
-Anger
-Hidden needs (from childhood)
-Stress (work, family, partner)
-or some form of self sabotage (alcohol, drugs, sex)

Fixing one of these is as valuable as buying something with money

Seeing as though I was extremely shy and timid it was hard to get laid at times although I had more than enough opportunities to have that happen looking back. With this girls it’s transactional I get what I want then leave. I’m not justifying by saying that but it’s the reality. Somewhere inside me there’s some holes that need to be filled and I guess I do it via hobbling which isn’t good. I’ve also always been an impulsive person and self control was always hard for me. That will power to stop myself is something I need to work on harder

I think it's good for everyone to take a break from the hobby every now and again. Let's you take a step back and reevaluate your priorities
