Menu ideas?

I have really been trying to put together a menu that sounds appealing.  I have it almost together but have found a struggle in how to word both acupressure treatments and myofascial treatments.  I know what they're all about and all the benefits of them, it's just putting them in to words that sound really appealing is stumping me.  Any and all help would be appreciated.  And if anyone has their menu that they could show off that would be great too!Thanks so much,jas

I have written, and re-written, and RE-WRITTEN my menu so many times. I would recommend keeping it as simple as possible. The majority of the clientell will not understand the different massage modalities (unless you explain them briefly in your menu) I still have people asking what a Swedish massage is. You will still have to tell them the benefits of each service you offer. If I werent so scanner-impaired, i would send you a copy of my menu! (me and electronic devices do not see eye to eye :}  )

I'm with bodymovers on this one....whatever you do....keep it simple.  I decided not to have a menu of choices.  No one ever understands them.  I don't care how much info you have on a menu, you'll still get tons of questions like "what is this?" or "what is the difference between these? or "what does that mean" or any other type of question.  And those questions can from people who were looking at a menu that a multi-million $$ company designed.  (well, come to think of it...maybe that was the problem lol  :)

I think the current menu fashion is keep it simple.It used to be make it a mini story of everthing that happens and how you will be floating, but people wouldn't read War and Peace and just skim the headings and ask questions even if it was right in front of them.  Then it swung the other way, and now I think it is still over towards the less is more phlosophy.I get them in with "massage" that is a bit of a fusion of a lot of the modalities I offer.  While working on them I will suggest they might like a particular style of treatment next time and why I think it would be appropriate for them.  It's personalise the offering to their needs.  Since it sounds like you're not offering spa type services, but very theraputic ones, mentioning the other modalities during or after the first treatment will probably have more impact than all the flowing words you can put together.

Keeping it simple helps...I did one in school for my homework people and just keep updating it with the new things I have learned...really I keep 2 notebooks now (one for clients and one for doctors)...I got a binder with the empty pages you can put paperwork into...in the front is my menu...(in my client menu) I use words like yummy, release from pain, small slice of heaven or letting stress go to the wind...(in my doctors menu) I have written the modality with pathologies that are helped by it...the pages behind it contain my certifactions, newspaper/internet write ups...then last in the book are pictures and discriptions of equiptment and product I have or carry...it is a great tool...I use the client menu to pass out...use 2 colors that are compatible on your font...use one color for the words massage menu and your modalities...use the other for discription...this makes it appealing to the eye... ;D

Instead of trying to explain what the different modalities entail, could you describe what conditions/aches&pains they are most effective for to help you client decipher which kind they want?

Thanks for all the great ideas and suggestions.  I have been a MT for six years now, and this is the first time I have put together a menu, can you believe it?  The biggest reason I am doing it is because the woman I work with has a menu and she says everyone is asking for my menu. (peer pressure!)  I do other massages and also some spa treatments, these two modalities were just the two that were hanging me up.  Thanks again!!jas

I gave out the menu when I first started...for every one I gave out I got between 3-5 responses...it is a great tool...

When I was in full-time practice, my services/price listing was diecut so that I could put one of my business cards on the back of the brochure.  I little hit of hot glue might do the trick even.  So even if they don't keep the menu, there's still the card that hopefully makes it into their wallet, hopefully onto the fridge and hopefully into their hand to call you for a massage.   Joe E.

I believe that menu's are important.  So may people have tried new therapie's based on the wonderful discription's I provide of my menu's.  Yes, keep it simple, but include important aspects of the therapie's that you offer. I enjoy writing description's that appeal to a broad range of people.  When I first started out I looked at all the spa's and local MT"s menu's to get a better idea of what other's use.   You may want to seek the advice a of writer to help you out.

it has been my observation that massage services in menus are decribed in terms of what the desired outcome is/quality of stroke versus spa services seem to be described as the chronological sequence of the service.
