Starting out, few questions and consult form.

Hi,

My name is Claire and I have just started up. Have been qualified for a while but had a baby. Just have a couple of questions.

I have 2 male clients booked this Thursday, both in a Salon (renting a room). Just wondered what people do if they ever have inappropriate clients?? Is there some kind of protocol to follow?

I'd like to offer a mobile service to reduce renting costs. Are there any female therapists that offer a mobile service to men? If so how do you do this safely?

Has anyone got a consult form I could pinch? I spent ages doing one, then last week my 3 year old boy broke my laptop and I lost all my documents.

Hi Claire

As a therapist you have to be in control, sometimes people will ask, the answer is simply to say NO, if they persist then you tell them to get dressed and leave after they have paid.

In a salon, there should be other people about, so you should feel more secure about being assertive, knowing there is someone within calling distance to assist you

That is it really, as I said just stay in control of the situations.

Interesting article - in the 5 years or so that I've been massaging I've never noticed a male client get aroused. If they did then I would just ignore it.

Regarding treating male clients I assume they have come to me for proper therapeutic massage and nothing else. I've only had one guy ask for something more and I told him stright "No". He did wait until the end of the session to make his request.

I wouldn't know how often these occurences happen, still training at the moment, but I do really like the advice offered in that article on how to deal with it professionally if the client gets aroused and is embarrassed, or if they get a bit pushy or inappropriate.

Regarding cons forms, I think main things to think about are:

name and contact details of client
GP/doctors details and contact number
Reasons for treatment/why client wants massage
Any health problems at present or recently
Any medication client is taking
checklist for any contra-indications
Signature to indicate they understand the treatment and that the information they give is correct
maybe space for any feedback on the treatment - useful for repeat clients

Its great that you are starting up and doing so well, please take time to read other threads on this type most if not all of them will tell you that inappropriate clients are so few and far between dont take it as an issue track down yojajoga she has lots of great advise on issues like this and is a very good therapist.
